The Battle of the Snacks: Navigating Healthy Eating on the Job

For the last few years, I’ve been trying to eat healthier, cutting back on processed foods, candy, and sweets. I even made a conscious effort to cut back (or completely cut out) sodas and sugary juices. Now, I won’t pretend I eat clean all the time, but I definitely think twice before deciding what to consume.

That awareness has helped me make better choices… most of the time.

On my latest gig, I was in charge of ordering crafty. Think snacks, chips, chocolate, candy, donuts the kind of spread that’s designed to keep everyone fueled but often ends up being a minefield of temptation. I did pretty well resisting the urge to snack constantly. But one day, the donuts got me. Not just one, not two I had three donuts in a single day. And honestly? I felt a bit ashamed. But at the same time, those donuts tasted so good.

Some days and weeks are harder than others, especially when I’m onsite working. Junk food is everywhere, staring at me from every corner of the table. I try to combat the temptation by bringing my own snacks and meals, not just to stay on track with healthier choices, but also to save money. Because let’s be real, eating out constantly adds up fast.

The thing is, I know I won’t always make the best choices. I know there will be days when I cave. And that’s okay. The goal isn’t to be perfect, it’s to be mindful, to make better choices most of the time, and to keep moving forward even after a three-donut kind of day.

Do you struggle with eating healthy while working? How do you navigate the junk food temptation? Let me know. I’d love to hear your tips!
