97 Days and Counting: The Power of Movement & Consistency

On the day after Thanksgiving, I challenged my family to take at least 7,500 steps a day for a week. Just seven days. It was meant to be a fun little challenge, something to keep us moving after all the holiday food. But here I am, 97 days later, still going.

Hitting 7,500 steps a day has become part of my routine, and at this point, I don’t want to break the streak. Some days, it’s easy—when I’m out being active, running, or even just walking around a lot at work. But then there are the hard days. The ones where I’m at a desk all day, or at home, laying down in bed, not wanting to move. Those are the days when I have to be intentional. I have to remind myself to get up, step outside, and walk.

Why I Keep Moving

I think about my mom, who gets more steps than anyone I know. No matter what, she makes it a point to move. She motivates me. It’s not just about the numbers—it’s about what movement represents.

I’m grateful for the ability to move. I don’t take for granted that my legs allow me to walk, skate, and cycle. That I can get from point A to point B without pain. That my body is capable. Movement is a privilege, and this streak is a reminder to honor that privilege every day.

The Power of Consistency

I don’t know how long I’ll keep this streak going, but I do know this—showing up for myself, even on the days when I don’t feel like it, matters. It’s easy to move when you feel motivated. The real challenge is moving when you don’t.

So, I’ll keep lacing up my shoes, stepping outside, and putting one foot in front of the other. Because movement isn’t just something I do—it’s something I appreciate.

And I’m just getting started.
